The Atomic Highway pendant series was inspired by the shapes of vintage motel and diner signs. These shapes have been translated into modern retro designs. No two are exactly alike as they are made one at a time.
This is the first time I have created a pendant using a faceted stone. I saw this fluorite and the colors really said “70’s” to me and I knew it had to be a motel pendant. It is set in a prong setting with an open back to let the light through. The color is best shown in the photo of the pendant against the light background. Another cool thing about this stone is that it looks like it has a fracture in it. It does, but this is an ancient fracture healed over eons. Attempts were made to break the stone and it is solid. Unbreakable! At least along that “fracture” that can be seen inside it.
The stone is accented with a 4-pointed retro star and stamped lettering accented with black oxizidng chemical.
This hand forged Atomic Highway pendant measures 1 and 1/16″ wide by 2 and 3/4″ tall. This is a larger pendant.
Forged by me from sterling silver sheet and sterling wire. This is rustic. You can see the hammer marks and rough surface. This pendant has been darkened with silver oxidizer to bring out the hammer marks, then sealed with archival wax to help protect the finish.
20″ stainless steel rolled box chain with a lobster claw clasp is included.
