Modern Concho Adjustable Hat Band – (hat not included) – #315

This hat band is my modern take on the traditional concho medallion design. A little traditional, a lot modern. It has layers, texture and makes a statement. I loved this design so much that I kept the first one I made and it has taken up permanent residence on my black cowboy hat.

This hat band was created entirely by hand from sterling silver sheet and wire with all parts silver soldered together. All pieces of this band have been forged with a hammer for a very organic look. This hat band has been oxidized to bring out the hammer marks and has been give a satin finish. The piece has also been waxed with archival acrylic wax to help preserve the oxidation. This silver ornament can be polished with a polishing cloth.

This hat band is adjustable. See photo for the clasp which is made up of two hand-forged sterling silver o-rings that have been hammered for texture, oxidized to bring out the hammer marks, and sealed with archival acrylic wax. These o-rings work just like d-rings on a belt. They will arrive “fastened” and you can adjust the size of the band without undoing the leather from the rings.

It is recommended that, just to make sure the band is very secure, once you have it on the hat that it will live on, you should put a stitch or two through the band and through the hat (or around an edge of the ornament and through the hat). You can cut the loose end of the leather band to the length you want. If the leather stretches over time, you can cinch it down again.

The band is made from a 1/2″ wide strip of gray cowhide leather.

The rivet holding the clasp in place is satin finished steel.

The ornament on this hat band slides so you can put it anywhere on the band that you want (front of hat, side of hat, etc.). This is my take on the traditional concho ornament. I loved the first one I made so much that I kept it for my cowboy hat. This is the first one I have made for sale.

The ornament on this hat band is 1 and 1/4″ tall by 1 and 3/4″ wide. The o-rings are 5/8″ across.
