A year in the making, this highly unique sterling silver cuff bracelet features a tiny, perfect, retro gas station. I have long loved this style of old station and wanted to find a way to create a tiny version of this amazing mid-century design. The double-cuff under it is meant to recall the double center line of a highway. The inside is stamped with “refuel” as a reminder to take a break and take some time for yourself.
These pieces were created in collaboration with another metalsmith friend of mine who has a completely different skill set than I do. He excels in computer design with mind-blowing detail that results in a 3-D printed wax model to be used in lost-wax casting. This is a 3-part casting that I spend hours cleaning and carefully soldering together (and then cleaning some more). I hand-forge the double cuff from sterling sliver wire with parts soldered together and stamp the inside with lettering. Lettering and the gas station are ultimately accented with black oxidation to bring out all of the amazing detail.
The piece offered here is for a 7″ wrist. There is about 1/8″ for adjustment larger or smaller.
But most of these pieces will be CUSTOM ORDERS. This has to fit correctly. The gas station is a chunky piece of silver with nice weight and it has to fit just right; not too loose and of course not too tight. I won’t be making lots of multiple sizes due to the cost, but am happy to take a custom order for one of these beauties.
Custom orders will require 50% of the cost paid at the time the order is placed (excluding the shipping on the final piece – they will require a $218 down payment).
Please use the “contact Red Ember Forge” email link on the homepage to contact me to inquire about having one made just for you. It will take me 6-8 week to complete a custom order. It could be less time, and if it is, I’ll definitely contact you as soon as it’s finished.
This is my concept and the gas station is proprietary. My fellow metalsmith is only casting them for me. A Red Ember Forge exclusive!
I am amused by the fact that the cuff that I’ve forged is done using some of the most ancient techniques while the gas station exists in such stunning detail thanks to the most modern computer design and 3-D printing technology. A perfect combination of old and new.
The band on this piece is 1/2″ wide. The gas station base is 1 and 1/2″ long by 1″ wide by 5/8″ tall at the tallest point (from ground to the top of the “gas & sip” sign.
