Retro Sign Pendant made with steel from a ’61 Plymouth Valiant – # 230

This pendant was hand-forged, by me, from sterling silver sheet and wire, formed with a selection of vintage hammers with all pieces cut by hand using a jeweler’s saw.

The pendant features a piece of steel from a 1961 Plymouth Valiant. The information card pictured in this listing will be included with this pendant. I salvaged the body metal from a car in a classic car parts yard in South Dakota.

The steel it attached to the silver pendant with two silver tube rivets. The shape of this pendant was inspired by the shapes of vintage motel, café, and diner signs and is part of my Atomic Highway series.

The paint from this Valiant is fragile and there are some missing areas that flaked off prior to sealing this piece. It is part of the character of the piece and with normal wear and tear, no further flaking should occur. This pendant measures 7/8 of an inch wide by 2 and 1/2 inches tall.

This is rustic. You can see the hammer marks and rough surface on the metal. This pendant has been oxidized to bring out the hammer marks, polished to a satin finish with fine steel wool, and sealed with archival wax to help preserve the oxidized finish.

This Valiant body steel is a red-orange color. It has some small chips in the surface and wear marks. The steel has been sealed with clear gloss lacquer front and back (so the chips are sealed and the steel on this piece should not rust, none of the red-orange surface paint should flake off). I still would not recommend wearing this in the shower or pool or other body of water.

A 20″ stainless steel bead chain included. If you want another length of stainless steel chain, let me know and I’ll replace the 20″ chain with one of your desired length (no additional cost – use the “contact” button on the homepage to contact me about another chain length).
